St. Kitts and Nevis Basketball Camp 2021
Introduction
This Summer Basketball camp is aimed at young players between the ages of 7 to 23, and seeks to develop their basketball skills through drill sessions, but also equip them with other life skills using motivational sessions with USA basketball College and High School coaches, and former NBA and WNBA players. Part of the camp activities for the older players is the recruitment element, where outstanding and highly talented players are selected to receive athletic scholarships to attend high schools and colleges in the USA. The selection is done by the USA college coaches attending the camp.
Vision Statement
The aim of the is to attract a generation of youth into basketball with the potential to become top sportsmen and women of St. Kitts & Nevis and also motivate and encourage young people to stay and attain academic achievements whilst in the pursuit of sporting excellence. In addition:
- To provide invaluable insight to young basketball potentials with academic prowess that it is possible to amalgamate and raise their attainment level while teaching them the discipline to not lose sight of their sporting end goal.
- To value the commitment to team sport and therefore instill community spirit. Show that sport can be a channel for improved character building
- To uncover talent and offer such talent basketball scholarships to USA colleges
- To improve the quality of life by encouraging and supporting the Dr. Denzil Douglas Foundation (The Global Lifestyle Foundation) in the setting up of a Basketball program for the youth, with a view to developing character, health, community and civic pride.
- To give the youth alternatives to crime and social depravity.
Benefits to Participants
- Develop positive feelings and help young people with a poor self image of themselves who often times look else where for sources of self respect, however aimless the social activity.
- Affirm and recognize experiences of competence and success.
- Reward individual achievement/s as lack of praise makes for uncertainty and then lead to the risk not learning.
- Motivational talks to show the emotional link between learning and feeling is powerful and equip them with the tools to unblock the fear of failing or poor self esteem and low confidence.

Daily Camp Activities
Day camps are structured as teaching camps - to excite kids about the game of basketball. They are not overly competitive. Skills development every day will help kids learn the fundamentals of the game:
- Ball handling and dribbling
- Defense, individual and team skills
- Passing
- Offense, with and without the ball
- Shooting
- Rebounding
- Motivational sessions by coaches
- Healthy exercise
